FAQs

  1. Q: Is your milk organic?
A: No. South Mountain Creamery™ follows tried and true common sense family farming methods proven over the years. They do follow many of the practices of organic farmers such as:

    • No growth hormones are given to any South Mountain Creamery™ cows.
    • No pesticides are used in the treatment of any of South Mountain Creamery’s fields.
    • Cows are fed by “free of choice” feeding. This means they have the option of dining “in” on a mixture of corn, hay, soybeans and minerals or dining “al fresco” and eating and grazing on pesticide free pastures.
    • Every cow in South Mountain Creamery’s herd was born and raised on the South Mountain Creamery™ farm.

Frankly, the process of obtaining an Organic certification is cost prohibitive to the small and mid-sized dairy farm.

  2. Q: Do you use growth hormones in your dairy products?
    A: Nope. No way. Never!
  3. Q: Since the milk is in a glass bottle, is there a bottle deposit?
A: Yes. Hey, Milkman!™ charges a $1.50 deposit per bottle. This charge is applied when you purchase the milk and is credited back to your account when the bottle is returned to Hey, Milkman!™.
  4. Q: How do I sign up?
A: Just visit HeyMilkman.com to become a part of the Hey, Milkman!™ family. There is a refundable $25 sign up fee required upon signing up for home delivery service.

  8. Q: What forms of payment does Hey, Milkman!™ accept?
A: For starters since we’re just starting out, Hey, Milkman!™ accepts checks only. Upon delivery, Hey, Milkman!™ will leave with you a customized invoice showing your account balance and any bottle credits you may have. Just leave a check, made out to Hey, Milkman!™ in the cooler for the appropriate amount. Easy peazy lemon squeezy!
  9. Q: How is South Mountain Creamery™ and Hey, Milkman!™ helping the environment?
A: First, we save you gas and time making countless trips to the store for the basics. Second, glass bottles are re-usable. Paper or plastic milk containers clutter our already overflowing landfills. Third, South Mountain Creamery™ works closely with local soil conservation groups to preserve the soil and prevent soil erosion. Fourth, South Mountain Creamery™ is currently developing a program to convert cow poop into electricity and bio-diesel fuel and converting vegetable oil into fuel.

There’s another reason why South Mountain Creamery milk tastes better and is healthier for you than other organic milk - it is pasteurized using high temperature short time (HTST). Organic milk (and most other milk) from the store is pasteurized using Ultra-pasteurization (UHT) which heats milk to a much higher temperature for a longer time, thus denaturing (destroying) healthy proteins and deminishing its nutritional value. And, its easy to see for yourself that HTST milk tastes much better than UHT milk. My boys love it.
